In December 2004, we inaugurated our new winery at Apalta, in the Colchagua Valley. Our investment totalled over US$7.0 million with a storing capacity of 2.300.000 liters. A cellar that becomes a qualitative production leap for one of the most applauded Montes red wines: Montes Alpha and the Ultra Premium Montes Alpha M and Montes Folly in addition to the recently launched Purple Angel.
This cellar holds state-of-the art technology, equipment and design, and the capacity of producing the finest Chilean wines.
Chilean architect Samuel Claro holding widespread experience in cellar design, from the Claro and Swinburn Agency, executed the architectural design. The nationally renowned designer Paula Gutiérrez was responsible of the décor, she created a warm and alluring environment which brings about the all-embracing wine experience; the exterior setting became Adriana Edwards` creation, a landscapist by profession, she gave life to gardens and a park.

The Feng Shui Concept

Some noteworthy contributions by the Viña Montes partners: the winemaker, Aurelio Montes, supervised all technical aspects involved in the construction of the cellar. To gain insight, he visited over twenty of the finest cellars in California’s Napa Valley and visited Australia, the land of great industrial expansion. Alfredo Vidaurre, coordinated the interior design in collaboration with Paula Gutiérrez. Douglas Murray, in charge of international sales and marketing, teamed up with the Feng Shui expert, Silvia Galleguillos, to ensure every basic element was given its rightful place–water, metal, wood, etc.- and in accordance to this ancient Chinese philosophy which assures harmony in a confident environment.
