Montes is proud to announce our certification of a level B check from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) on our Montes Winery Sustainability Report 2009, commending our devotion to sustainable practices. This is, so far, the highest available recognition given by the GRI worldwide to companies from the agricultural industry on sustainability matters.

In order to preserve the integrity of its surrounding ecosystem and promote welfare among our workers and the community, Montes Winery carries out evergreen principles that maintain and improve our sustainable initiative as an organization. This includes –among other practices– water and energy preservation techniques (by using EcoGlass bottles, energy saving bulbs and energetically efficient water wells as well as water saving practices), recycling methods and compost production to fertilize our vineyards organically. In addition, we provide appropriate compensation and medical coverage for all our workers, fund employee training courses, educational studies and support their children by assisting local teachers in Apalta on academic programs.

GRI is a non-government organization formed in Holland in 1997, whose mission is to create conditions for the transparent and reliable exchange of sustainability information through the development and continuous improvement of the GRI Sustainability Reporting Framework. According to this, each report must cover three dimensions of the company: environmental, economic and social performance. The GRI provides marks depending on the complexity with which the company demonstrates its level of commitment to sustainable issues.
